What Causes Severe Vomiting During Menstruation?

Hi I m really desperate in trying to find an answer to my situation. I can t really say a specific date that I started going through this, but for almost 2 years I ve spent a week/per month in the hospital. Every time I start my period I start vomiting and can t stop and it will last 5 days and I m not able to eat anything. It sends me to the hospital for that length of time. and all I am treated with is nausea meds that don t do any thing and fluids. Now I went to see a gynecologist and they put me on Depo in August. For the months of August and Sept I didn t have an episode, but I had one Oct. 25 I had gotten sick and as usual ended up back in the hospital vomiting my guts out. I don t know if it stressed my body out but my period came and I don t know what is causing it or what else to do or how to stop it at all for that matter. I ve had tests done but the best solution was the depo shot. I don t know what else to do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Don't worry menstruation is often accompanied with cramps & discomfort. Women who have high prostaglandins levels usually have diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps & headaches. You can take antiemetics & Naproxen for relieve. Since you have been put on Depo, it should work, body takes a little time to adjust.

Hormonal birth controls & painkillers work. Take a diet rich in iron, calcium & protein. Stay away from stress, take adequate sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
