my 5 month old is throwing up minimum 4 times after every time I breastfeed him. And majority had mucus. He has milk protein allergy. So I am currently soy and dairy free. I just got diagnosed with gallstones and am waiting to have surgery. Could my gallbladder back up be causing him to get sick?!

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. Your problem of gall stones is not likely to be reflected on breast milk to cause vomiting in child. While sucking breast milk, child also swallwos air along with it.. this air comes out & along with it comes the vomitus ( mucus/ milk) regurgitates out. To avoid it- -Never keep baby in her bed after breast feeding. At least keep her on one side/ with her head raised ( on a small pillow ), so that the vomitus is thrown out of mouth, preventing it's entry in air way - Burping after finishing breast feed is important. Hold child upright on your shoulder/ let it sit in your lap.. tap her back gently. The trapped air comes out in form of burping, hiccough, yawning. After it stops keep the baby in bed. Thanks.
