Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking care of my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter and she has been vomiting now for about 4 hours -- every 1/2 hour or so. We are at a point where she is just vomniting a bile-colored liquid. i dont know if it s something she ate, or if she has a flu or something else. I am concerned about dehydration. Can you give me any suggestions?
I really appreciate your concern for your grand daughter. Bile colored vomiting and profuse amount can lead to dehydration, electrolytes disturbances and low sugar level. I would advise you to follow these measures to avoid dehydration and electrolytes imbalance.
1. Give her lots of water and ORS solution.
2. Give her soups, glucose water and fruit juices as much she can tolerate easily.
3. I would advise you for domperidone or ondansatron syrup for vomiting. If it doesn't subside with theses measures then take her immediately to emergency room for physical examination and assessment for dehydration and intravenous fluid therapy.
Hope this answers your question. Please do not hesitate to ask for follow up question, I will gladly answer you.
Regards, Dr. B R Hudda
