What Causes Severs Pain Having COPD, Pacemaker And Mild Alzheimer S Symptoms?

My 88year old father has been hospitalized twice this week. He was carried out of my home by six paramedics, screaming in pain. the pain was so severe he could not sit up by himself or walk with screaming. He has copd ,a pacemaker and mild Alzheimer s symptoms. Up until this he was able to dress himself, drive, and do his own general care. I provide daily meals and cleaning, etc. . He was started on IV morphine and muscle relaxers, and sent home twice once the drugs kicked in, only to return to the pain hours after he was off the morphine. His mind is very confused, and for two days he could not do anything without full two person assist. I notice that as he sleeps, his area and legs reach out and jerk countinously. He is for the most part incontinent, and I have to dress him, and he cannot put normal daily activities such as dressing in order. His legs are so weak he can barely support himself with a walker and two people holding him up. While in the hospital they did a cat scan, a back X-ray, supposedly checked him for a uti infection, gave him fluids and the morphine. I am stuck, don t know what to do, dr says send him back to hospital, home health care won t come because they consider him to high a risk, and he has been denied by assisted living and memory care because they say his pain is not sufficiently under control. He could not even wake up fully at home on the hydrocodone and muscle relaxers, and he did not urinate for 12 hours after the last morphine he was given. I removed the pain pills and muscle relaxers and his mind is a little better, pain is decreasing, yet he is too weak to stand even with help and a walker for more than a couple of mins. He is deteriorating before my eyes, and I am very frustrated with the hospital. They never even admitted him, they kept him 2 days as an out patient. what are your thoughts , what can I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
In my opinion I think your father may have suffered from stroke. If I were his treating doctor I would advise you to visit a Neurologist who might suggest an MRI brain to confirm the diagnosis. He might also advise you for a Renal function test.
Hope I have answered all your queries. If you have any further questions I would be happy to help.
