What Causes Sharp Right-sided Abdominal Pain?

Hi, I have been experiencing some sharp pains in my right side that only happens after I lay down and try and get up, once I get up and stand completely up the pain goes away. No other time do I experience this feeling and I feel good. The pain is on my right side about middle ways from my armpit.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Sudden pain in right side of abdomen while trying to get up can be one of the following:
*Hernia in initial stage,.
*Muscular sprain that might have been due to lifting weight all of a sudden.
* Underlying inflammatory lesion like appendicitis, diverticulitis, fat necrosis.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Clinical examination by a General Surgeon.
Confirmatory CT scan.
Tests of blood, urine and stool as per the protocol.
Anti-inflammatory with painkiller properties.
If appendicitis or so then surgery may be needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
