Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i broke my tibia and fibula and had hardware put in almost 10 years ago. Lately I ve had shooting pains in my leg where I had surgery, along with tingling and numbing. I m wondering if I should have the hardware taken out or if it is better to keep it in?
10 years is quite a long duration and is quite sufficient to help in fusion of the broken ends of the bones. Once this is done, the IM nail or plate with screws can be removed.
Most probably there is a circulatory problem either due to malunion of the bones or due to the implants. Please report to your doctor for adequate management.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
