What Causes Shooting Pain In The Left Arm And Leg?

I suddenly developed some symptom that are raising some major questions for me. I took all my meds as I do every night. While laying in bed trying to sleep I was woke up by shooting nerve type feeling on my whole left side. Mainly my arm and leg. It made me very uncomfortable so I got up to try and walk it out and noticed when I stood up I almost felt drunk (was only drinking water) and I couldnt see very well..everything was blured. This went on for about an hour or so then I was finally able to fall asleep for the night. I seemed okay today and it started to happen again about an hour ago but not as sever. I have noticed my left arm seems heavy and I have a constant ringing in my ears. What could cause this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

First I would like to know what are your regular medicines at night. Are you hypertensive, diabetic, or have high cholesterol levels? The above symptoms could be due to some nerve compression at a spinal level or it could be a feature of TIA, a precursor of stroke.

I would advise you to visit a doctor as soon as possible.

Vitamin D deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid abnormalities and high blood sugar levels can also be present with the above symptoms. These symptoms can be detected by blood tests. It can be corrected by appropriate medication.

Hope this helps.

Warm Regards.
