What Causes Sinus Infection After Taking Penicillin For Tooth Infection?

i had a root canal and had a lot if infection. i was given penicillin vk 500 mg.i ddid not take it properly. i never got enough to kill the bacteria. i still have 3 pills. now i have a sinus infection with ears filling up with and fluid and don't know if it is bacteria or virual. i don't have a family dr.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms if you have got root canal treatment done and it is not causing you any symptoms then there seems to be no problem associated with it and in case if you have sinus infection and you have 3
Penicillin VK remaining you should definitely NOT take it as first of all you should get evaluated by an ENT physician and get evaluated for the cause of sinusitis and get treated accordingly..

And even if the cause is bacterial then only antibiotics will work but in that case also taking 3 antibiotic doses of Penicillin VK that you have will not work and a complete course of medication like 5,7 or 10 days or even more as advised by the physician will have to be taken..
Other thing is that precaution should be taken while taking antibiotics as frequent and irregular intake of antibiotics can lead to drug resistance and the antibiotics will not be any more effective for treating further..

So I would suggest you not to take antibiotics without proper consultation..

As of now do steam inhalations, take decongestant nasal sprays and use humidifier in your room..
