What Causes Sinus Infection With Chest And Arm Pains?

My husband is 45 he has had a tooth infection for 18 months despite many visits to dentist and 4 or 5 courses of antibiotics it is not improving and an xray shows infection now in sinus. recently he has had chest and arm pains. The pain starts in his arm a cramp like pain and spreads to upper left chest / shoulder. he gets very panicky and feels like he is going to pass out. He has had an angiogram and told heart looks good. could the infection be causing this or should we be looking at other causes

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you have a tooth infection and it is left untreated then it will keep progressing and will cause perforation of sinus floor and will cause sinus infection.
This is possible if you have infection in your upper teeth.

Secondly pain in arm, shoulder and upper chest if not related to heart can be due to gas formation, muscular pain, costochondritis etc.

So you should consult an Emergency room and get evaluated so that the exact cause can be diagnosed and treated accordingly..

For now you can take muscle relaxant and see if the pain improves.

For sinus infection you should first of all you should get the tooth treated, either root canal treatment or extraction can be done.
It should be followed by course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
