What Causes Sinus Pressure And Green Mucus Discharge From Nostril Post Cataract Surgery?

I had cataract surgery 3 months ago and had a complication. The machine which breaks up the cataract and suctions out the debris wasn t working properly so my canals got clogged and my eye pressure went up . I had IV that night at the hospital to bring down the pressure and the specialist re-opened the wound in my eye the next morning to relieve more pressure. He said everything would clear up in time, but since then I have felt pressure in my left sinus area, small amount of green mucus and blood from just the left nostril. Can these symptoms be caused by the complication? Then last week, I felt horrible pain in my upper molar which, after 6 days, sent me to the dentist. I explained my recent history and she diagnosed a dental abscess and prescribed 7 days of antibiotic and is recommending a root canal or extraction of my tooth. After 7 days of antibiotic, I feel terrific ... no tooth pain and no sinus symptoms. Is it safe to wait for a few weeks to see if any of my symptoms return, instead of having an expensive root canal and/or trauma of an extraction?

Hi,

Cataract surgery does not involve any manipulation of the sinuses. It was most likely coincidence. Since the antibiotic used for your dental abscess helped your sinus issue, you may have had a bacterial sinus infection. This can be cause by untreated allergies and overgrowth of bacteria that feed on the mucus that doesn't clear properly. You may need to consider treating allergies if you have any. You should be able to wait since you feel better. You may not need any dental procedures if you continue to feel well.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
