What Causes Skin Rashes, Mild Cough, Mouth Sores And Low Grade Fever?

My 2 year old grandson woke with a rash on the back of his neck, right upper arm, and left upper thigh. He also has a mild cough off and on thru the day. His mother took him to his doctor, who notice also redness of the inner mouth and a low grade fever of 99. The doctor was clueless, and advised tylenol for the fever and benedryl for the rash. His appetite is good and active as usual. I m concerned it may develope into something more serious.
