Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sleeplessness Despite Taking Melatonin And Benadryl?
I have been having trouble sleeping for years. I have tried 10mg of melatonin which worked for a while then it stopped working. When I talked to my doctor about it I was hesitant to try another prescription since I had a prescription for Ambien in the past but I had nightmares when I took it. My doctor told me that I could try Benadryl. 2 Benadryl at night used to work but would leave me feeling tired and sleepy the next day. Now even the Benadryl is not working. I am averaging 3 to 4 hours of sleep each night but I am always tired so I need some guidance on what to try next.
In your case, melatonin is the best drug that can regularize your sleep patterns with out side effects
I suggest you go back to melatonin after doctor's consultation. Only thing you needed is dose increment and dose adjustment which your doctor will be helping you with.
Hope this helps!
Best Regards Dr Chaithanya
