Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Dr,I have been on Anastrozole now for nearly a year. I will be seeing my oncologist in two weeks time. I have been experiencing increased difficulty getting off to sleep each night despite exercise each day and plenty of activity. This has become more of a problem as the year has progressed. Sometimes it is because of hot flushes and joint pain or feet pain, but sometimes it is just for no reason. I can be very tired and yet after I go to bed I seem to wake up just as I want to sleep. I have been prescribed some temazepam by my GP, and I am becoming increasingly reliant upon it. I don t want to have to take it every night but as I work four days a week it helps me be ready for my work day.Any suggestions ? Would it be beneficial to change to time of day I take the tablet ? I always take it at bedtime within an hour of the same time each night.
Temazepam, rather than anastrozole is likely the culprit here. It is a benzodiazepine that can cause some sedation and drowsiness. Anastrozole will not cause much sedation. If disturbing, you can request your GP to adjust dose. You can also try taking a bit earlier in the evening, so that sedative action may start weaning early.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
