When I began a vegan diet I was unable to fall asleep, and my heart was beating really fast which disturbed my ability to fall asleep, and my body was also very tense even though I felt relaxed. After three days of no sleep, I felt terrible and had to eat some dairy and eventually I fell asleep after taking a hung number of calcium tablets. However, taking calcium tablets only worked for a week and now I am back to no sleep which is causing me serious problems, I feel terrible and make mistakes. I feel better not eating dairy and my stomach is no longer bloated, but if it means I cannot sleep I cannot continue this - what is causing the problem? No one else I know who is vegan has this problem. I have been to the doctor three times but they are not helpful, they just offer sleeping tablets even though I though I told them I want to find the cause of the problem, and in any case sleeping tablets don't work at all for me I remain completely awake after taking them. Please could you tell me what the problem is? I need to be able to sleep at night.
