What Causes Slight Bleeding After Being On Birth Control?

I am currently on birth control. A few days ago I missed a pill and took two the next day, but i also got my period that day...which is odd because I had my period the week before Christmas day, Christmas was my last day. I have been bleeding very lightly for about 6 days now. Is this normal?
