What Causes Slight Raised Area In Back Along With Discolored Bruise?

My wife had an eye removed in early 2011 due to a ciliary body melanoma and has been symptom free since then. Over the past month, we have noticed a slight raised area on her back that is soft and slightly discoloration similar to a bruise. Her annual check up isn t for a few months. Given she is otherwise asymptomatic, should she have this checked out?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

I can understand you concern and would try to help you in the best possible way. Any lump or bump on the body has to be checked up with a physician. Some warning signs to look out for include:

1. Asymmetry of the lesion
2. Irregular Borders
3. Different colours or shades present in the lesion
4. Size greater than 1 cm
5. Any new change in colour, shape, border or size of the mole

If you have one of above warning sign, then it is my advice that you get your wife checked up early. If not then you may wait till her next annual check up and mention that to your physician then.
