What Causes Slurred Speech And Severe Heartburn After Femur Fracture?

Hello, my mom fell broke her distal femur and had emergency surgery to repair. Before that my dad said she was not eating and seemed disoriented. She is now in rehab for the surgery. Yesterday she had slurred speech, complained of severe heartburn and would not eat and was disoriented. She had these same symptoms before the surgery before and after the surgery. They have tested her for a urinary tract infection and it was negative. What are your recommendations?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Her symptoms could be related to a possible stroke or TIA. For this reason, I recommend performing a brain MRI and a Doppler ultrasound of her carotid arteries. Other tests to consider would be an EEG, in order to exclude possible focal seizures.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
