What Causes Sore And White Mouth While Taking Antibiotics For Ear Infection?

My son is 7 years old and taking antibiotics for an ear infection. Yesterday I noticed a sore in his mouth, and today this sore has turned white and has a velvety texture to it. He also has quite a bit of swelling in the cheek where the sore is. From what I have seen, it definitely appears to be thrush, although I'm not sure about the swelling. Can I treat this at home, or is this something I should have checked out by a doctor?

I have gone through your query and can understand..

As per your complain white coating over the tongue after taking antibiotics seems to be due to yeast infection known as oral thrush and it cannot be treated at home and you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can advise him antifungal mouthdrops, lozenges and Nystatin mouthwash for clearing the fungus..
Taking ample of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic will also help..
As far as swelling over the cheek is concerned it can be due to allergic reaction to the antibiotic or can be secondary to ear infection if it it adjacent to ear or can also be due to infection or inflammation of parotid gland or any tooth abscess..
The exact cause has to be ruled out and treatment can be planned accordingly..
