Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have an extremely sore leg from joint down calf and down to ankle. Bruising on back of leg won feet all the way around foot just below ankle. Also have swelling. Ultrasound indicated no sign of ruptured bakers cyst and crafts indicate arthritis mild to moderate. What would cause all of this and is it serious.
You are diagnosed with moderate arthritis and are now experiencing swelling in the legs and ankle. You are suggested to lose weight if obese. Restrict the amount of salt in the diet. Pain, discomfort and swelling is due to arthritis. Take NSAIDS, Naproxen, one SOS when needed after food to reduce soreness and pain. You can take food having anti inflammatory properties to reduce the symptoms. Keep your foot elevated on a stool when sitting and on a pillow when on bed.
Bruising on the back of the leg is commonly due to deep vein thrombosis. Do not stand at the same place for a long period of time. Damage to the blood vessels may cause blood to leak causing discoloration of the skin. You can apply a thick layer of ointment Thrombophob on the area affected with bruise. Take balanced, home made food. Stay active and exercise regularly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
