What Causes Sore Throat Along With Low Grade Fever And Dry Cough?

I'm wondering if I should go in to get a throat culture for strep.

I woke up this AM with sore throat, low grade temp. 99.6, aching, mild dry cough.
Throughout the day my temp. Has been quite low, 95.1, 95.7, and 96.6. I have slept for most of the day.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

From your symptoms (sore throat with dry cough and low grade fever), I am suspecting Acute pharyngitis. Most commonly, it is caused by virus and that it is self limited. Sometimes, viral infection is superadded by bacterial infection which causes high fever and productive cough with yellowish sputum. And common bacteria is streptococcus.

My suggestion: Use anti-inflammatory agents like paracetmol and antibiotics like levofloxacin or azithromycin. Please consult general physician for more information.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siddartha
