What Causes Sore Throat And Bumps On The Back Of The Tongue?

I have developed bumps toward the back of my tongue & along the sides that resemble raspberries; it
began with a mild sore throat, which caused me to look closer. Also, my tongue has a whitish, yellowish
coating on it that cannot be brushed away with a toothbrush. I have been gargling with everything that in
the past has eliminated a sore throat , but nothing has effected whatever this is, for over a month. The mild
sore throat still lingers. I have no doctor; I am a senior citizen.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain bumps at the back of tongue along with whitish yellow coating that cannot be brushed off seems to be most probably due to fungal infection in mouth known as Oral Thrush caused by Candida Albicans fungus..

Bumps at the back and sides of tongue seems to be due to inflamed and swollen taste buds that are commonly seen due to infection causing inflammation..

For a confirmation you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like microscopy of the coating from tongue can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..

In case of Oral Thrush you will be advised to gargle with antifungal mouthwash like Nystatin mouthwash, suck Clotrimazole lozenges and take a course of oral antifungal medications like Fluconazole or Itraconazole for atleast a week..
Along with it take plenty of Probiotics like Yogurt and garlic..

For sore throat do warm saline gargles, suck throat lozenges and take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen..

I hope your query is resolved..

Regards.
