What Causes Sore Throat And White Spots At The Back Of The Throat?

I had had a sore throat, cough and a lot of phlegm for almost a month before seeing my doctor. She said that I probably had a sinus infection and put me on Augmentin for 10 days. I ve been done with the medication but my sore throat is back with pain in my left year. My throat is red and I have seen (though not today) white spots on the back of my throat. Could it be strep or just the sinus infection coming back?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain white pustules at the back of throat along with pain in throat seems to be probably due to a severe case of bacterial throat infection known as Strep Throat..
White pustules are pus pockets that further confirms towards bacterial infection..
It can be due to post nasal drip caused due to sinusitis..

For confirmation consult an Otolaryngologist or an ENT expert and get evaluated..
He can do investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

You can be advised:
-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. -----Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
