Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 16 year old niece has been sick since Monday, sore throat, fatigue... Strep was negative. She is extremely fatigued, sleeping a lot. Today she had a fever (101.2) and cough and says she feels pressure in her head. Took a mucinex D. Tonight her arms and legs are extremely mottled. What could this be? The severe mottling worries me.
Mottling of extremities can occur in viral infection, bacteremia among other causes which needs to be investigated for. Sore throat, extreme fatigue needs symptomatic treatment with Paracetamol, Betadine gargles, plenty of warm oral fluids. Antibiotic may be needed if white cell count is more or an examination of throat is indicative of bacterial infection. Symptomatic and supportive treatment can help for early recovery. Ask the patient to take a bed rest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
