What Causes Spotting And Stomach Discomfort?

Hi, I am 39 years old and have a 16 month old baby girl. She is still breastfed 4-5 times a day as well as taking solids. I haven t yet got my period back. About two weeks ago I had a small amount of spotting and since have had period type pain/discomfort though no period. It isn t a bad pain, but enough to put me off my food and make me feel a bit ordinary. Is this just the body re-adjusting to the cycle? Should I expect a period soon? Should I go it and get checked out by a local doctor?

Hello,

You are breastfeeding a 16 month old baby girl. You have not yet got your periods. Presently, you are having spotting and stomach discomfort. You are not getting periods yet. Commonly after delivery, women get their menses within 6 to 8 weeks of giving birth. However, periods return in a few months irrespective of whether a woman is breast feeding or not.

Delayed return in periods may occur due to poor general heath condition, anemia, PCOS, hyper-prolactinemia, hypopituitarism, hypothyroidism, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an OBGYN, get all required tests and investigations done to detect the pathology that is causing you discomfort and to rule out secondary amenorrhea and pregnancy (ectopic) if sexually active. You will be accordingly treated and managed.

Do not take stress, take home made nutritious food rich in calcium, iron and protein. Wait for a couple of days you may get periods. However, your periods may be a little different after delivery as the body is adjusting to the menstrual cycle. You may experience scantier or less menstrual flow than your normal period, periods may become irregular, you may experience less or more cramping, etc. Avoid stress, take adequate rest. Stay away from addictions if any. Take adequate rest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
