What Causes Spotting Between Periods On A Regular 30 Days Cycle?

Hi Dr., I am 36 yrs old. Very regular periods, 30 days cycle, had intercourse around ovulation last period on 21 September (never had early periods) started light spotting 23 days into my cycle (never had this ever in my life, spotting between periods). It has lasted around 7 days. Done 3 home pregnancy test (one being today) and on Monday 19th I had a blood test with all being negative. If it s not implantation bleeding (as I ve been reading online could be a possibility, what other possible medical reason could it be?

Understand your concern
As you had history of unprotected sexual intercourse it might be a implantation bleeding that occur around your period. But pregnancy test will give positive result after 10 days of missed period from normal period date. You can check pregnancy after few days. Better confirmation should be done by blood HCG and USG. Also not the other causes of spotting: stress, hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, endometrial dysplasia, PCOS, Thyroid problem, atrophic vaginitis, perimenopausal sate.
If pregnancy test will come negative, you should consult the gynecologist for diagnosis of above cause after investigations like per speculum examination hormone profile- FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, DHEAS, Free testosterone,
Lipid Profile, endometrial biopsy, Pap smear etc
