What Causes Spotting, Nausea And Tenderness In Stomach Area?

I am 58, have not had mother nature for 8 years, since after Christmas I have been spotting, feeling bloated, nausea and tenderness in my stomach area. I have had a biopsy of the uterus which came back normal/ I also had a urine sample taken direct from bladder, that too came back normal. What could possibly causing this? I did have a gastric bypass years ago, and wondered if it could from that.

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Your symptoms are vague and a lot of gastrointestinal and abdominal conditions can cause them. So a physical examination and investigations like ultrasound of the abdomen and maybe an upper GI endoscopy would be needed to arrive at a diagnosis. I do agree that the gastric bypass may cause these but again it can be commented only after examination and knowing the type of surgery that was performed. So I suggest that you see a gastroenterologist with all the details of your previous surgery and he will be able to help you.

Other home remedies that may be tried before seeing a specialist are eating a soft diet like soups, gruels and juices for 5-7 days and avoid any spices or fried food. Taking probiotics like yogurt to help in improving the intestinal flora. A long walk every morning and evening to help improve digestion and get rid of gases. Pantoprazole tablets once a day help control gastric acidity that sometimes causes these issues.

Regarding the spotting, From your query it seems that an endometrial biopsy was done [sample collected from inside the uterus]. Please check if a biopsy was also taken from the cervix or not. If there is spotting than there must be some reason for it. The commonest cause is senile endometritis or atrophic vaginitis. This can be managed with local estrogen creams. Rare causes are endometrial cancer or cervical cancer which seem unlikely as you have been told that the result is normal.

Please feel free to ask any more queries and I would be happy to answer them.
