What Causes Spotting Post Birth Control Pill Withdrawal?

. So I have not really been taking my birth control these past few months. If I start a pack and forget a day or so I usually just stop. Last month I started a pack and stopped after maybe 5 days :(. So my period ended on the 25th maybe and I didn t start my new pack until the 31st. I then went to St Thomas and forgot my pills, so I basically stopped taking them the 4th. I then started to spot in St Thomas on the 9th, and I have been spotting ever since. So now I am going on day 10 and am not sure if this is normal. Since I technically started on the Friday of last week, I now started a new pack of pills yesterday 9/18/16. Please let me know if this is normal or if I should schedule an appointment. I am hoping that the spotting will stop since I am on a new pack now

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The drop in hormones triggers the release of some blood and mucus from the lining of the uterus out through the vagina. Spotting typically resolves after the first three to four months of using birth control pills.

If you're spotting and still in this window of time, try your best to stick it out.One of the best ways to prevent or reduce spotting while on the pill is to take your medication at the same time each day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
