Hi,
welcome to HCM,
There are different causes of rib pain :a)
musculoskeletal pain such as
costochondritis, fibromyalgia, MS etc, b) lung related causes such as pneumonia, bronchitis,
pleural effusion etc, c) cardiovascular causes such as
aortic dissection, CHF etc. or d)malignant causes such as bone cancer, lung cancer,
multiple myeloma etc.
Based on your symptoms as you referred to me, I stongly doubt that you might have pneumonia an infection that causes symptoms such as fever and body aches.( I don't know if you have other accompaining symptoms such as cough, problems with breathing or other symptoms)
So, I suggest you to take some exams such as 1)Chest x-ray 2)CT scan.
3)Sputum cytology 4)MRI (if your doctor suggest you so)
5)Perhaps a biopsy will be necessary too in order to exclude a malignancy.
Treatment for Rib Pain consists: NSAIDs or pain medications, compression bandage, exercises, hot/cold compresses and sometimes surgery for severe cases.
So ,please consult a specialist, take these exams and please contact me again.
Wish you good health,
Dr. Ermira Biu
