What Causes Stabbing Pain In Abdomen And Lower Chest Of A 12 Year Old?

12 year old boy complaining of stabbing pain in his abdomen and lower chest behind ribs. He woke up this morning complaining of a stomach ache and head ache. Made it through school feeling marginally better. Then at bedtime complained of stomach ache. He just woke up complaining of being tired (its nearly midnight) and having stabbing pain in that same area. He says it feels like a sea urchin in there. it seems to be coming and going.
I am concerned because the symptoms have not fully gone away since this morning. thoughts?

Hi...by what you quote I feel it could be gastritis or acid peptic disease. At bed time he is complaining means - it could be the result of a gastro-oesophageal reflux, which might get aggravated in lying down or reclining position and hence he is getting this during sleep. I suggest you consult your pediatrician with this tip get her evaluated. Meanwhile you can try some over the counter antacids and see if he gets symptomatic relief.
