Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Stiffness And Discomfort In The Achilles Tendon?
I have stiffness and discomfort in the Achilles tendon area starting when I was playing tennis (which I have done for decades). I had it xrayed to confirm no tear and was told it would heal in 6 weeks. 2 to 3 months later still stiff and sore. I have suspended playing any tennis.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. It appears from your description that your Achilles tendon injury has not healed completely. You would require rest for another 6 to 8 weeks. You need to take proper analgesic medication and use crape bandage so as to restrict joint movements. Gradually, after about 4 weeks, when you feel better, you need physiotherapyrehabilitation for about next 4 to 6 weeks. If this conservative management doesn't help you to get better and back to normal, it is advisable to undertake MRI scan and consult Orthopaedic Surgeon for clinical evaluation and appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best and get well soon. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S. MBBS., MD.
