Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I woke up this morning with a very stiff upper back. I thought it was because I doubled my pillow, but as the day progressed... my pain has extended to my neck and around to my chest. I m on a heating pad but I m concerned because I ve never felt this before.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Sudden stiffness in back ,without any excessive physical stress or any other health issue ( fever, arthritis, spinal problem or heart problem ) could be just sleep in an unusual position-causing sprain . Heating, pain medicine over the counter & local application of muscle relaxant can relieve it within 5-7 days. Still the pain In chest/ neck & shoulder needs to be consulted for any cardiac problem. Consult a cardiologist. Thanks.
