What Causes Stinking Smell In The Nose Post A Sinus Surgery?
HELLO MY NAME IS MECHELLE. I JUST RECENTLY HAVE MY SINUS SURGERY LAST THURSDAY FOR CHRONIC MAXILLARY FRONTAL SINUSITIS. TO REMOVE THE PUS INSIDE WHICH IS DUE TO MY WISDOM TEETH PULLED. I SMELL MY NOSE INSIDE SO STINK THAT SMELL IS KILLING ME EVERYDAY I SMELLED IT SO THATS WHY I DECIDED TO HAVE SINUS SURGERY TO DRAIN THAT PUS. AFTER 2 DAYS OF MY SURGERY I CAN STILL SMELL THAT FOUL ODOR IN MY NOSE. I STI9LL HAVE SOME BLOOD COMING OUT IN MY THROAT AND MY NOSE. HOW MANY DAYS IT TAKES THE BLOOD WILL GONE AND THE STINKY SMELL IN MY NOSE. NOW NOW ITS MY 4TH DAY AFTER SURGERY AND I DONT KNOW IF ITS PRESSURE OR HEADACHES I FELT. PLEASE I NEED ANSWERS. THANK YOU.
Since sinus lavage has been done already, now antibiotics usage and decongestant may be helpful to completely dry the sinus, but recovery can take two weeks. Also using anti histamines like Cetirizine or Loratidine may be helpful for symptomatic relief. Mouth washes can be used for oral hygiene and to prevent any retrograde spread of infection.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
