Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 11 year old son woke up this morning and had a stomachache and has been vometing the last 9 hours around every 30 min. He does not have a fever but says his stomach feel overwhelmingly nasaus. I have given him ginger tea, pepto and plenty of fluids throughout the day. Should I take him to the Urgent care, or wait it out? Not sure what else to do
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM His condition may not be handled at home.He will need to be hospitalized with IV fluid and ions replacement.Given the rate at which he is vomiting, no oral treatment may help.He will also need IV anti-emetics like vogalene. As for the causes of his symptoms, your description of symptoms sound like an enteritis that may be of viral, bacterial or parasitic origins or other digestive pathologies like a bowel obstruction....Only examination be the Doctor with some laboratory tests may help identify the cause.Tests that may be requested include: stool exam/culture, full blood count, abdominal ultrasound and if any clinical suspicion of a bowel obstruction, plane abdominal film.In the meantime, he will need IV anti-spasmodic pain drugs like spasfon. Hope this will help Wish your son a speedy recovery
