What Causes Stomach Pain And Tingling On Back?

I have had sharp pain in the belly just below the left chest rib cage for over a month and itching and tingling feeling on my left back. I went to a doctor and without doing any lab work or X-ray he said it was a beginning of shingles, so he put me on medication for 7 days to prevent rash from occurring. I finished the whole course last week, but still have the pain in my stomach with NO tingling or itching. I am very concerned and worried it is a more serious issue. Any thoughts

Hi,

There are many possible causes of stomach pain and tingling on the back, including digestive issues, nerve problems, infections, and musculoskeletal conditions (condition which effects your muscles and bones). It is possible that your symptoms are related to shingles, as your doctor suggested, but it is also important to consider other potential causes.

Since you have finished the medication for shingles and the tingling and itching on your back have disappeared, it is less likely that shingles is the cause of your ongoing stomach pain. However, it is still possible that the pain is related to an underlying infection or inflammation.

Other possible causes of your symptoms include gastrointestinal issues like acid reflux or ulcers, nerve compression or damage, muscle strain or injury, or even stress or anxiety. Additionally, certain medications or dietary factors may also be contributing to your symptoms.

Given that your symptoms have persisted for over a month, it is important to follow up with your doctor to further evaluate the cause of your stomach pain. Your doctor may recommend further testing, such as blood work, imaging studies, or a referral to a specialist, depending on the suspected cause of your symptoms.

In the meantime, you may find some relief by practicing stress-reducing techniques like meditation or deep breathing exercises, making dietary changes, and avoiding any activities that may aggravate your symptoms. Over-the-counter pain relievers may also be helpful for managing your discomfort, but be sure to talk to your doctor before taking any new medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
