What Causes Stye On Upper Eyelid After Cataract Surgery?

One month post cataract surgery, I have a stye or maybe more than one on upper eyelid. I have used baby shampoo and warm compresses and the stye seems to be draining but the eye itself as well as the eyelid are inflamed. Is this a sign of more generalized infection for which I need to see my doctor?

Hello
It seems from the history that you are having stye after cataract surgery. This may be related to use of steroids following cataract surgery.
Stye is caused by infection of the glands of the eyelids.
Since you had a cataract surgery recently, the infection needs to be controlled aggressively to prevent the spread of infection to inside of the eye.
The treatment is by use of antibiotics and oral anti-inflammatory drugs.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment to prevent introcular spread of infection.

Thank you
