What Causes Sudden Blackout Of An Elderly Person?

What would cause a 73 yr. old man who blacks out while watching TV two nights in a row? First night, his head went down and he didn t respond to his name. Visiting friend put both of his hands on his face and he awakened. Next night same thing except he didn t respond until friend slapped his face.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

See, from your description it looks like TIA or transient ischemic attack. This can happen in this old age. It happens because of sudden decrease in the amount of blood going to brain and then recovering immediately. I would suggest you to get a CT scan brain done, a lipid profile done, measure blood pressure and blood sugar regularly and keep them under control, start brisk walking as exercise.

Get back to me with the reports.
Hope this was helpful.
Regards
