Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 66 y/o father just called me in the middle of the night panicked because he woke up in a pool of sweat. O2 was 98, pulse 72 wnl. He had no other symptoms, so I calmed him and told him just to bring it up with his Dr at his next visit and not to hesitate to call 911 if he had any chest pain. This had never happened to him before.....any ideas?
In this case the history of patient being diabetic or not is very much important as this history is lacking the exact comment regarding the same can not be given. Considering the scenario it is advisable to get his ECG done immediately though there is no chest pain as the profuse sweating may point toward some cardiovascular insufficiency though the sweating is not accompanied by chest pain , as many times the cardiac patient may not perceive the pain.
Second most important thing is get his Modified glucose tolerance test & HBA1c done to rule out diabetic or pre-diabetic condition as the Sudden hypoglycemia may be the cause for the profuse sweating without chest pain which is common in diabetics.
Psychological mood changes may be the reason for the sudden sweating but for that detailed history to be furnished to the doctor.
So my advice is that get His ECG, Modified glucose tolerance test & HBA1C done.
