Why would cause high blood pressure in a usually healthy person?? MY pressure has been spiking gradually this week..., I am not on any meds and I usually have lower blood pressure. I am 53 and am currently menstruating with bad pms.., could this be related to high blood pressure? If not, what could it be the cause?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. Ali's Response
Stress mental or due to any disease can cause rise in Blood Pressure. But at your age it very common to have high BP. As we age our blood vessels gets harder and their elasticity decreases causing high blood pressure, there are many risk factors for this process including genetics, ethnicity, smoking, diabetes, stress, lack of sleep and many more. There is no documented evidence of association of high BP with PMS.
