What Causes Sudden Rise In Blood Sugar And Blood Pressure?
I have always had blood sugars and blood pressure that were normal to low even during two pregnancies.. I went to the ER and discovered they were both very high, blood sugar was 287! I had normal blood work as recent as July this year. What could cause this sudden jump? I had no evidence of even having pre-diabetes
Hello there, Yes I can understand your concern of having such high blood sugars but I would like to tell you that pregnancy is a time that in normal women the sugars maybe on the lower side. When was the blood drawn after your last meal is another factor that needs to be considered before jumping to conclusion about your diabetic status. Sometimes sugars can go up suddenly if you had some pancreatic infections or inflammations. Did you take any new medications in the recent past. Do you have any other symptoms? Sometimes other hormonal problems could make blood sugars to rise suddenly. Please meet a diabetologist who will evaluate all the possible causes for sudden elevation of blood sugars. Till then to clear your doubt get an OGTT and HbA1c to check your diabetic status. Hope this helps. Take care.
