Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I experienced sudden weakness in my right tricep two weeks ago. This is noticeable in the gym, where I can tricep press 45lbs with my left arm and only 15lbs with my right. Onset was sudden. As far as I can tell, all other muscles are normal. (E.g. Right bicep is as strong as left). I have mild aching in my right trapezoid and right arm, but have not experienced anything like sharp pain. Weakness doesn t appear to have improved or worsened in two weeks.
The symptom you have is predominantly the weakness of the right triceps with no other symptom. I am assuming this came along while you were working out at the gym. The first and foremost possibility that comes to my mind is an injury in the triceps. It may have not improved because of the continued work out. I feel you have developed a hematoma of the triceps.
I think this will need the following tests:
1. CPK
2. Ultrasound of the arm to look for the hematoma.
The other, but less likely possibility is the damage to the nerve that supplies directly and only triceps. An EMG will be needed to look for denervation changes.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
