What Causes Swelling And Pus In The Nose With Sinus Infection?

I have had a sinus infection for the past 3 years .I had surgery about 10 months ago for my sinuses in my tear ducts. my infection still hasn t cleared up.recently I had a sinus headache and I went back to the ear nose and throat doctor who performed my surgery. they gave me prednisone and antibiotics. after I finished the antibiotic and steroid I went back to see the doctor for a follow up. that was yesterday. the doctor looked in my nose with a scope and the swelling was still there with puss and scabbing. the doctor gave me another round of antibiotics and today my nose is now we clear fluid with a yellow tint to it when I bend over out of my left nostril. my question is should I be worried about this I don t want to have to call the doctor after just one day of just having been there.I don t want to seem like a hypochondriac. the doctor is also sending me to a Rheumatologist and he is putting me on a nebulizer

Hi,
welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You could be having sinus infection. Your treating doctor has changed the antibiotics. You should give some time to act.

I also recommend the following along with antibiotics.

1) Antihistaminic like tablet levocetrizine with phenylephrine.
2) Steam inhalation to promote sinus drainage and improve sinus ventilation.

You will be fine.

Hope i have answered your question. If you you have any questions, I am happy to help you.

Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr.Paparaja S. MBBS, MS
