Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In Ankles Long After Ankle Injury?
I am experiencing swollen ankles/feet in the last couple of months. I broke my left ankle a year ago so first attributed it to that injury however I wake up with both ankles appearing normal but as the day continues the swelling starts. This has been happening quite frequently and wondering if theres a bigger concern causing the swelling.
Your symptoms might be due to Joint sprain, ligament injury, bursitis of old injury or straining of the affected leg etc. I advise you: - Take analgesics (Acetaminophen) twice and tab. Seropeptidase thrice daily with antacid along - Bed rest and don't over-strain the affected area - Ice pack to relieved of pain and swelling - Elevate the foot end of left leg - Check X-ray of leg with ankle joint if needed
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
