What Causes Swelling In Left Thumb? Suggest Remedies

I am 29 year old lady.I have suddenly noticed left base of thumb swelling since three days. It's pain alot and I am unable to do daily work with left palm. There is no trauma or other noticeble cause.I have taken Flexon-MR after consulting my family physician which reduces pain to some extent but not fully.
What may be the reason ? and possible treatment?Should I consult orthopedic surgeon?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
If there is no history of injury, you may please consult the Orthopedic surgeon who on clinical/ physical examination would write few blood tests like hemogram , ESR, RA test and others to see the root cause.
A plain x-ray to start with and MRI if financially viable can lead to a diagnosis to have a correct treatment.
Rememeber all the parts which are painful need to be rested as a rule.
I find this answer helpful
