Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In The Ankles And Feet While Suffering From Gastroenteritis?
My 17 year old daughter has Gastro, and the top of her feet and ankles are swollen. Is this part of being unwell or is it a sign she is getting worse or it is not gastro? The doctor came last night and gave her an injection to stop the vomiting and diarrhoea.
Swelling in the feet & ankles is commonly caused due to overweight, a circulatory problem, anaemia, water retention. Other causes can be fracture, ankle sprain or developing kidney or thyroid problem.
Visit ER, get her physically examined & get a thorough health check-up done to detect the pathology causing it.
Get gastroenteritis to be treated first. Continue the medications prescribed by her treating doctor. Give her home made food, avoid oily fatty food. Give he veggies, fruits, calcium & mineral rich food.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
