What Causes Swelling In The Knees After Receiving A Cortisone Shot?
Several days ago I received a cortisone injection in my left knee. The pain left my knee for a part of the day and then the next day, my knee is worse than before the shot. It is now very swollen, and I am having more problems walking. My face was bright red the day after I received the shot . It had to be from the shot. Tonight I am having sharp shooting pains in my knee......any thoughts, do I need take care of this urgently?Thank you, Joni Costello YYYY@YYYY
It can take a few days for the inflammation and pain to completely subside after cortisone injection. Since you are complaining of worsening of swelling and pain, it is also important to rule out the possibility of joint infection. Please be advised to follow up with your treating physician or urgent care and get an Xray of the affected knee. Meanwhile, take rest, apply ice, keep the affected leg elevated and take advil to reduce pain and swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
