What Causes Swelling In The Little Finger, Upper Arm And Shoulder?

I woke up last Tues. (ff. a big day the day before) with a swollen and inflamed end of the left pinky. Drove back to VT that day. Went to the doctor s office Wed/. Was said to be bacterial infection; got Rx. Not getting better -- with added pain in hand and up arm as far as elbow. Back the MD office on Fri., new RX for same diagnosis. Went back Sat. (as advised) added pain now in upper arm & shoulder blade and neck. Back on Monday; now diagnosed as a viral infection; given new RX. Things not getting better. Hand a little less swollen but red finger not fully gone. Lot of discomfort in parts of hand, arm, should blade. -- GO back again? Other ideas? TX

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an infection of the finger named paronychia.

I recommend taking antibiotics to trestle the infection.

I also recommend using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen to treat the inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
