What Causes Swelling In The Tonsils After Treating Strep Throat?

Hi doctor, I have swollen tonsils for 2 months now. Originally had strep c but cleared with antibiotics. Bit the swollen has not gone down.. Both of my tonsils are big with red streaky veins and white little dots like pockets on. Is this just normal for tonsils? Do they take along time to heal and go down? Thank you

Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Team.

Understanding your concern. Swelling in the tonsils after treating strep throat is probably due to low body immunity or incompleteness of antibiotics course. Body has become more susceptible and prone to get infected with streptococcus which is a very common occurrence.

Swelling of lymph nodes along with fever, yellowish sputum , difficulty in breathing all are possible symptoms. What you need to do is take Recofast plus capsule 3 times a day. Multivitamin rich in vitamin B. Jathrin tablet once daily. Avoid cold beverage and spicy food .

Do betadine gargles atleast 3 times a day.You need not to get them removed. Simply follow this and improve your general immunity. Take proper diet to boost immunity . If condition doesn't get better then consult ENT specialist .Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may also recommend tonsiullectomy in case of frequent occurrence .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
