What Causes Swelling In Tongue And Face After Taking Meth?
I work in residential facility and we have a client who is actively using meth, this morning she woke up and her tongue and face is swollen to the point that she is having a hard time talking, she is able to breathe fine, but was wondering would someone using meth have such reaction?
Swelling of face and tongue is not one of the commonly encountered effects of methamphetamine use per say. Facial puffiness and swelling of tongue with varying degrees is usually seen in allergic reactions when a person comes in contact with an allergen that his/her body reacts to strongly. It is possible to encounter such a reaction if the meth happened to be adulterated or contaminated with other substances (which is common in street drugs). In case of long term regular usage of meth, there can be effects on various organs like the heart or kidney which in turn can lead to symptoms such as swelling in limbs or face.
It is advisable to get it examined by a doctor to rule out any serious condition.
