Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling Of Feet Post Mild Head Injury?
I fell out of bed 12 days ago. I struck my forehead on the corner of my night stand. I still have a very black eye and a lump on the forehead. My feet swelled up a couple of times several days ago. Today my husband saw on the Doctors show that swelling of the feet could be caused by a blood clot! I am nervous but wonder if I would have had the clot within a day or so. Am I right?
The swelling of feet doesn't seem to be related to head injury in anyway. The swelling of feet could be due to stagnation of fluids over the area due to prolonged lying in bed. Pl check if the swelling is over the feet or legs. Feet is the area below the ankle and leg is the area above the ankle up to the knee.
If the swelling is over legs then please get a condition called DVT (Deep vein thrombosis, a technical word for a clot in the vein which can get dislodged and cause dangerous complications in lungs) ruled out by getting a doppler study done for your swollen legs. Keep your feet above the level of body to reduce the swelling. Please do not massage the area.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
