Hello,
Swelling under the ribs is commonly due to nerve compression, sprain, trauma, injury,
costochondritis, bruised or
broken ribs. You should get X-ray, CT and MRI done to detect any internal injury. Other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms are IBS, gastritis,
pancreatitis, liver disorders or kidney infections. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get the required blood stool, urinalysis and imaging tests done to detect the factor causing you discomfort.
You will be treated accordingly. In the meantime, take
acetaminophen or Combiflam, one SOS when there is pain. You can take antacids and PPIs for relief. Avoid
constipation, take laxatives at bed time or food rich in fiber. Stay well hydrated, away from stress and addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
